For the second year running, we hosted what is now the annual Remembrance Cup at the Tameside Stadium on Saturday 9th November 2019. This year saw us host teams from Manchester City, Preston North End, and Liverpool. A huge thanks to those teams who travelled to Tameside for what was a very successful event.
The Curzon Ashton Community Foundation funded the food for all the players, whilst each team paid a small entry fee to cover the cost of the trophy and the referee fees.
Curzon ‘B’ team ran out winners for the second successive year, beating Liverpool in the final match. The tournament was played with good spirits with group games being played prior to Curzon Ashton’s first-team game versus Telford. Then all players from all teams involved in the Remembrance Cup went pitchside to participate in the commemorative ceremony before going back on to the community pitch for the final games.
We hope that this tournament will grow year on year and look forward to hosting more teams in 2020.
