Curzon Ashton Military Veterans is an ongoing project.
Curzon Ashton FC were able to secure a grant from the Covenant Fund that went towards a multi-sports project for military veterans. The Foundation were able to fund a programme for veterans in Climbing, Table Tennis, Yoga and Archery.
The Foundation also secured funding to help military veterans gain a diploma in Horticulture, partnering with DB Garden Nurseries. Five gained a diploma through the course last year and subject to funding, the Foundation aim to roll the course out again this year.
The football team was founded in 2018 when Curzon Ashton teamed up with Moving Forces, in two years the team has grown from 3 to 26 thanks to the recruitment of Moving Forces.
Moving Forces has also helped recuit veterans onto the other courses, highlighting the work the Foundation do outside of football. The recruitment started at the end of 2017 with the Foundation attending the monthly veterans breakfast, hosted by the Globe Cafe in Dukinfield.
Due to the positive partnersip, Moving Forces sponsored the Curzon Ashton Military Veterans team, the sponsorship covered the cost of hiring the training pitch, allowing the team to train free of charge (until Summer 2020) and funded the home kit for the team.
The Military Veterans team have also hosted and competed in the annual Remembrance Day Tournament which they have won for the last Two years. The tournament consists of military veteran teams from Curzon Ashton, Burnley FC, Preston North End, Liverpool FC and Manchester City FC.
