International Suicide Prevention Day 2019
As part of our commitment to highlighting issues both locally and nationally, we have been approached by someone close to the football club and community foundation to raise awareness of the issue of suicide which has been steadily increasing over the past 10 years. On Saturday 14th September, when the first team host Brackley Town, the players will run out in a different strip – in the colors of the Internationally recognized ‘ribbon’ logo for International Suicide Prevention Day. There will be interviews and other poignant displays prior to the match in the hope that we can encourage other football clubs to come together to highlight this issue, especially with it being most prevalent in males aged between 20 and 35.
Last year was the first year we involved our military veterans team in our remembrance event at the Tameside Stadium. We hosted a tournament with teams from Burnley, Manchester City and Curzon Ashton that played for the inaugural Remembrance Cup. A representative from each team then laid a wreath from their team to be placed on the pitch prior to the Curzon Ashton league match that followed.
This year sees a continuation of the tournament which will be held at The Tameside Stadium on Saturday 9th November 2019. There will be an 8-team tournament involving; Liverpool, Burnley Manchester City, Preston North End, and Wigan Athletic.
We have always tried to do something special at Christmas and this year will be no different. We will host a 3-course Christmas Dinner for our over 50 community free of charge in the function suite inside the Tameside Stadium.
